The Balkanization of the Republicans

I've been amazed at how the Republicans in Congress have been going crazy after the midterm elections. Everyone is backstabbing everyone else. Take a look here, for one description. The analogy that popped into my head was that after years of being dominated into boot-kicking, single-purpose solidarity by their leaders, once the yolks were off, republicans have started acting like Balkan states, each going after their own interests, and not giving a damn about solidarity.
