Trying to Catch Up
Such as: today, there is a report that the New Hampshire phone-jamming scandal might be tied to the White House. And that the Pentagon is spying on gay groups. Then there was the news last week that the President approved the leaks of classified information in order to discredit Joe Wilson. Bush, in fact, has stated publicly that he did this so that "the truth" would be known. Of course, what no one is really reporting is the fact that the President only leaked certain parts of intelligence, rather than whole documents, as is the usual case, and that what they leaked was known to be false intelligence. Meanwhile, Iraq is going down the drain and even Colin Powell and Newt Gingrich are stating essentially that this was the most stupid thing we could have ever done.
I wouldn't be surprised if the Pentagon was looking after my humble blog, because after all, they did declare a 20-person Quaker group in Florida a "credible terrorist threat."
How anyone of any reasonable intelligence still thinks this administration has an ounce of credibility left is deluding themselves. Historians are going to look back at this administration years from now and wonder how anyone with a right mind bought into anything they said. This administration has been ruled by propaganda, it continues to be ruled by propaganda, and it will always be associated with deceitful propaganda.
And it is not just Iraq. There are the deceitful lies that have been made about the budget and the economy (the Iraq war is not included in the budget!). There are the lies about the environment and global warming (where the administration has rountinely rewritten actual scientific reports). There are the lies about medical research and the reality about the morning-after pill. There are the lies about supporting our soldiers when the administration continues to cut VA funding. There are the lies about the unfunded mandates of No Child Left Behind and the latest Medicaid bill. This administration, if it were a person, would probably be diagnosed as totally mentally ill if they were a person.
And yet, there are still those who can't let go of their partisan beliefs, that cling to Bush as if their own life depended on it. Its ridiculous. This administration is decidedly NOT a conservative one, and yet so-called conservatives cling to it like a lifeboat. The federal deficit has doubled since Bush took office. Doubled! Democrats used to be called "tax-and-spenders." Bush is a "tax-cut-for-the-wealthiest-and-spend-even-more!" So what's going on?
I'm a registered independent. I used to be a Republican, back in the day, but to paraphrase Ronald Reagan, "I didn't leave the Republican Party; the party left me." The shift to fundamentalist Christianity, the desire to regulate what you can do in your home and/or watch, the trend towards a theocracy; all these things turned the Republicans against me. I think Barry Goldwater is probably turning over in his grave, the things that are being done in name of "conservatism" these days. But if anything has made me want to just go ahead and register democrat these days, its Bush. What a failure of leadership. What a corrupt and hypocritical administration. What a joke of American politics.
We need to return dignity to our politics. We need to do something to stop the unprecedented corruption in our government. We need to stop the lies. I don't know if the democrats will do better than we have now; but we cannot do worse. There is an election in a few months. Do your part. There is something to be said when there are now 50 veterans running for Congress on the democratic ticket. The current administration is bankrupt: politically, morally, and ethically.
There. I'm back. And I'm pissed.
